NBA legend Grant Hill came to the NABC Coaches vs. Cancer gala at Heinz Field on Tuesday to support his former Duke teammate and current Pitt head coach Jeff Capel.
Capel and Hill played together on the hardwood for the Blue Devils in the early 1990s before their careers took different paths. Capel is already in his second stint as a power-conference head coach after putting in his dues at the lower levels while Hill played in the NBA until he was in his 40s.
Hill said that Capel possesses a lot of the traits he considers keys to being a successful head coach, and he should know, having played for Mike Krzyzewski, Doc Rivers and Mike D’Antoni.
Both men stressed the importance of relationships, and that’s what brought the former college teammates together for the charity event.
